Dance Fitness Event at the George Foreman YCC Aims to Make Wellness a Fun Family Affair

Enjoy celebrity trainers, live music, healthy foods, and more at the DFPH kick off March 5th


HOUSTON (March 1, 2016) – One of the most revolutionary health and wellness movements to hit Houston invites individuals of all ages and fitness levels to join forces for a healthy cause. Dance Fitness Party Houston (DFPH) celebrates the launch of a nationwide family fitness initiative at the prestigious George Foreman Youth and Community Center from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on March 5 at 2202 Lone Oak Road, Houston, Texas 77093. Sponsored by the George Foreman Youth and Community Center, Chick-fil-A (Beltway 8/Bellaire and 59/West Airport with support from 59/Little York), DBS Productions, and more; coordinators of the event aim to provide a fun environment to shape healthy bodies, healthy families and healthy lives.

The month of March marks several wellness observances such as National Nutrition Month and National Athletic Training Month. According to 2015 reports from the Centers for Disease Control, 29% of Harris County residents are categorized as obese, and the number of individuals who are physically inactive is higher than state and national averages. The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition reported that more than 78 million U.S. adults and about 12.5 million children and adolescents are obese, which runs the U.S. healthcare costs of approximately $344 billion annually.

This event aims to bring families together for a wholesome and interactive day of dance, exercise and bonding. Studies have shown that exercise is more than just a leisure activity; it improves mood, boosts confidence and heals trauma. Special guests include trainer to the stars Terry Williams of The League, Edrina Newman, DJ Athenz, Jaajo Dance Cardio, and a full lineup of leading instructors and performers on hand to crank up the excitement to get hearts and bodies pumping. There will be something for everyone, including healthy foods, and even healthy sweets from Rhonda Wheeler with Candy Dish Décor, inspiration from former NFL Player turned speaker Jay Barnett, and performances by musical artists such as Fullmetal. The day will be filled with a diverse mix of fitness demonstrations such as yoga, Zumba, West African Dance, belly dance, and hip hop rounding off with a Dance Your Pounds Off fitness session led by celebrity trainer Dwight Holt.

This event benefits local charitable organizations focusing on health and wellness.
