Tip Tuesday: The Speaker One-Sheet

What is a key tool that every speaker or aspiring speaker should have in his or her toolkit? A one-sheet! This should be a visually compelling, concise and punchy document that clearly communicates who you are and what value you offer.

In the creation mode, developing your one-sheet forces you to consolidate your brand messaging and is a great way to hone in on what makes you stand out from the masses. In the submission mode, it whets the appetite of whomever you send it to leaving them wanting to know more, ultimately leading to more quality bookings. A one-sheet can either be one sided or two sided, but its named is derived from the fact that, once printed, it is just one sheet of paper that helps tell your story and sell your services. It is an industry standard tool that makes you stand out as a true professional brand. In addition to your one-sheet you might also want to add a solid sizzle reel and a full-fledged media kit (if your brand has more components than can be captured in the one-sheet) to your toolkit.

Once you have these quality tools, the next most important step is to USE THEM! Upload your one-sheet to your website as a downloadable document, send it out consistently to events and conference/event planners, and have printed copies to pass out as marketing collateral at speaking engagements so people can easily find and book you. If you can’t make the time to do this, then hire a booking agent to assist you. They usually don’t charge money up front; they only take a percentage of your fee when they secure a paid gig.
